Jobs: Federal Government begins Recruitment Exercise of 774,000 youths

774,000 FG Recruitment Exercise begins

Last month, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammad Buhari disclosed from his speech that 1000 jobs will be created in each 774 Local Government which summed to the total of 774,000 jobs. This was a drastic move to cushion effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown the citizens have witnessed as it is obvious some businesses might not be function as they do before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus while some definitely will retrench some staffs due to the negative effect of the lockdown on their business and the Economy at large.

This Special Public Works Programme will capture 774,000 youths and job seekers which will in turn reduce the unemployment rate in the country. It is estimated to last 3months starting from early October, 2020. Also, there are possibilities that it might continue if effectively executed.

Some Nigerians have been coming up with criticisms that the programme might be hijacked by the Politicians where Festus Keyamo (SAN) vowed that such cannot happen and if it does happens he will resign.

The National Directorate of Employment which was established in 1985 is handling the recruitment processes.
